Proposal
I've chosen to look at the historical significance of the First Crusade for my extended project. This is an area of history that I'm thoroughly interested in, I also want to study medieval history at university therefore I believe this will help to prepare me. I will research the subject using the internet as well as local library sources, looking in particular at the different accounts of the Crusade and its significance given by historians such as Edward Peters and August C. Krey - this will in turn provide me with a sufficient amount of differing interpretations considering the historical significance and impact of the First Crusade. Given the scale of the historical event I am studying, I will be able to consider another dimension of research, namely the Speech given by Pope Urban II at Clermont, and its historical significance and impact as an event, and as the catalyst for the Crusade itself.

The first thing I need to confirm is that this isn't the same project that you will be doing for your A level History coursework? You are unable to use the same essay for your History coursework and the Extended Project.
ReplyDeleteIn relation to your idea for the proposal this is a bit vague at the moment and would be beneficial if you could focus on a particular area of relevance. For example, will you be focussing on the speech that he gave and the reaction towards this or will you be focussing of the historial relevance of the speech, considering how there are numerous different accounts of this? Or is there another issue that you intend to focus on?
Are there any particular historians you will be using in your research?
